School Hoops is the new name for basketball's Sporting Schools program — the Australian Government initiative that helps schools increase children's participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. Same program, same quality, new name.
Research shows that quality sport and physical activity in schools has a positive influence on children's confidence, competence and motivation to be active — at school and throughout their life.
Delivered in partnership with Basketball Australia, School Hoops features two nationally accredited programs, run by NSO-endorsed coaches or registered teachers: Ford Aussie Hoops and 3x3 Basketball. Aussie Hoops remains the popular choice across all primary age groups, and primary schools can now also select the 3x3 curriculum (recommended for Years 5 and 6) as either a coach-delivered or teacher-delivered package.
Grant funding is available to eligible government schools, applied for each term — meaning the program comes at no cost to children and their families. And if your school doesn't qualify for grant funding, such as private and independent schools, WBA delivers exactly the same programs directly to you.
Beyond the sessions themselves, the programs are built to boost physical activity and help students transition into local community sporting clubs — which is exactly where WBA and our affiliated clubs come in.
School Hoops aligns to the Play Well Sport Participation Strategy through Priority Area 2 — embedding a culture of sport in and around schools to drive lifelong involvement.

Ford Aussie Hoops
Basketball's nationally accredited entry program for primary students — fun, skills-first sessions run at school by NSO-endorsed coaches or registered teachers. The popular choice across all primary school age groups.
3x3 Basketball
The fast, half-court format — a nationally accredited program for Year 7 and 8 students, now also available to primary schools (recommended for Years 5 and 6) as a coach-delivered or teacher-delivered package via the School Hoops booking portal.
Why 3x3, why now? At the Commonwealth Games, all four Australian 3x3 teams finished on the podium — gold for the Gangurrus women and Wombats men, silver for the Gangurrus men, and bronze for the Wombats women.
WBA delivers direct to your school.
Grant funding not available for your school? No problem. WBA delivers the same School Hoops programs directly to private and independent schools — and to any school outside the funding rounds. We work with you to design a program that fits your students, your timetable and your space. We've already delivered Ford Aussie Hoops in a local primary school, and we can bring the same to yours.
Ford Aussie Hoops
Basketball's accredited primary program, delivered in-school — the exact program we've already run for a local primary school.
3x3 Basketball
The accredited fast-format program — built for Year 7 and 8 energy, and now open to primary schools (Years 5–6) as coach- or teacher-delivered.
Wheelchair Hoops
An unforgettable inclusion experience delivered on-site at Warragul Leisure Centre in collaboration with Basketball Victoria — your school comes to us, chairs and coaches provided.
Basketball clinics
Custom skills sessions run by accredited WBA coaches — in your gym, on your courts, during PE or lunchtime.
Funding & eligibility
How schools apply.
School Hoops grant funding (through the Sporting Schools initiative) is available to eligible government schools, applied for by the school each term to cover the cost of the program. Application windows, eligibility criteria and the funding process are managed by the Australian Sports Commission, with full details on the Sport Australia website. Not eligible? WBA delivers the same programs to your school directly.
