OverviewSeason at a Glance
2026 UpdatesWhat's New This Season
For the first time, our Under 8 program is being formally incorporated into the WBA Junior Domestic Club Competition — giving our youngest players their first taste of structured club basketball, while keeping it fun, educational, and pressure-free.
Rather than one grading game per round, all U10+ teams will play two mini-games (30 minutes each) against different opponents across the first three rounds — giving the Association and clubs more data to build balanced, competitive draws.
Following a successful pilot at the Dolly's Dream Warragul Junior Invitational, WBA is proud to introduce a formal Behavioural Management Framework — creating a safer, more respectful environment for players, coaches, officials, and families.
All New for 2026Under 8 Program New
The Under 8 program joins the WBA Junior Domestic Club Competition for Winter 2026 — a big step for our youngest ballers! Here's what existing U8 families need to know:
First Half — Coaching & Skills
The first 30 minutes of each Saturday session is dedicated to coaching, skills development, and basketball fundamentals — delivered in a supportive, low-pressure environment designed to build confidence and a love for the game.
Second Half — Match Play
Teams then compete in 2 × 14-minute halves against a fresh opponent each week — meaning kids are always experiencing new matchups and building game sense alongside their fundamentals.
Special U8 Rules — Highlights
- Coaches are permitted on court during play to guide and encourage
- A cap is placed on the number of points any one player can score, keeping games balanced and inclusive
- Travelling and double-dribbling rules are relaxed — the focus is on learning and enjoyment, not technical penalties
- Additional rules apply — full details are included in the 2026 Junior Domestic Playing Conditions, available for download once ratified

Grading — U10 and Above New
All U10+ teams play two 30-minute mini-games against different opponents across the first 3 rounds, giving the Association and clubs maximum data to build balanced draws.
No Home & Away Courts
The WBA Domestic competition does not operate on a home and away court allocation system — for either the regular season or finals.
No Preferred Finals Venue
Ladder position does not earn a home court or preferred venue for finals. All finals venues are allocated based on competition needs.
2026 — New PolicyBehavioural Management Framework New
Following a successful pilot at the Dolly's Dream Warragul Junior Invitational, the WBA is proud to introduce a formal Behavioural Management Framework for Winter 2026. Our goal is a safe, respectful environment for every player, coach, official, and family member.
Player & Coach Ejections
Any player or coach who receives a behavioural technical foul and is ejected from a game will receive an automatic one-game suspension, effective from the following round.
Spectator Warning Cards
Spectators who are abusive toward game officials will be issued a formal warning card — the first step in a clear, consistent escalation process.
Escalation & Venue Ejection
If abusive behaviour continues after a warning card, a team/bench technical foul will be awarded, followed by ejection from the venue if the behaviour does not cease.
