WBA Policy Our Commitment
At Warragul Basketball Association, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all young participants. We follow the Victorian Child Safe Standards and support the rights of all children to feel safe, respected, and empowered.
Child Safe Standards
WBA operates in accordance with the Victorian Child Safe Standards, ensuring our policies, procedures, and culture actively protect children and young people from harm.
WWCC & Screening
All staff, coaches, and volunteers are required to hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) linked to WBA or their relevant club, and to undertake regular child safety training.
Basketball Victoria
Our child safeguarding policies are aligned with Basketball Victoria's Child Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct, and the National Integrity Framework.
Integrity & Fairness
All concerns and complaints are handled according to current policy, legislation, and procedural fairness principles — ensuring every person is treated respectfully and equitably.
Meet Our Child Safety & Integrity Officer
WBA has appointed a Child Safety & Integrity Officer (CSIO) — a specialist role responsible for child safeguarding, integrity oversight, online safety, Member Protection, and complaints management. This role serves as WBA's designated Child Safeguarding champion under the Victorian Child Safe Standards and also fulfils the responsibilities of a Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO).
Our CSIO is a dedicated, trained member of our team who is approachable, trustworthy, and equipped to provide guidance, support, and direction on any concern related to child protection, wellbeing, integrity, or online safety.
Role Overview Responsibilities of the CSIO
The Child Safety & Integrity Officer is the primary point of contact for all child safety concerns, complaints, safeguarding queries, and online safety matters from children, families, coaches, and basketball personnel.
- 🛡️Promote a child-safe culture throughout our Association and affiliated clubs, ensuring all young people and families feel safe, welcome, and heard.
- 📞Be the first point of contact for anyone — players, parents, volunteers, or staff — with concerns about child safety, wellbeing, or integrity.
- 📋Receive, assess, and triage all child safety concerns and integrity complaints, determining the appropriate management pathway.
- ⚖️Liaise with Basketball Victoria's Integrity Team, Victoria Police, the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP), and other relevant agencies as required.
- 💻Lead WBA's online safety and eSmart program, including developing and monitoring WBA's social media policy and advising on online safety matters involving players, families, or officials.
- 📚Provide education and guidance to staff, volunteers, coaches, and officials on safeguarding, integrity, and online safety obligations.
- 🔍Support recruitment screening processes, including WWCC compliance and relevant background checks.
- 📝Maintain accurate and confidential records of all concerns, actions taken, and outcomes, and report regularly to the WBA Board.
How To Report a Concern
No concern is too small. We encourage everyone to speak up — all concerns are taken seriously, handled respectfully, and managed in line with our child protection procedures.
Reach out to our Child Safety & Integrity Officer by email or phone. All communications are treated with sensitivity and discretion. You may also speak to any WBA staff member if you are unsure where to start.
The CSIO will assess and triage the concern, determining the appropriate response pathway — whether that is local resolution, referral to Basketball Victoria's Integrity Team, or mandatory reporting to Police, Child Protection, or the CCYP.
All concerns and complaints are handled according to current policy, legislation, and procedural fairness principles. You will be kept informed of next steps where appropriate and permissible.
